The Alliance for Education in Waukesha calls on School District of Waukesha community members to attend the next school board meeting on Wednesday, September 10th at 6:30pm to demand a pause to all \u201cOptimizing Our Future\u201d votes or action until an impact study is completed. We ask the community to stand united in efforts to ensure a bright future for all of Waukesha\u2019s students.<\/span><\/p>\n

The district administration\u2019s \u201cOptimizing Our Future\u201d options and short implementation timeline have raised significant alarm across our community. Major changes, including the closings, consolidation and sales of multiple schools, are set to occur by the start of the 2026-27 school year. In response, hundreds of parents, teachers, students and community members have advocated for a slowing of the process, additional data, collaboration with the community, alternate options, etc. The Alliance applauds all who have spoken out and encourages everyone who has not yet done so to make their voices heard.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Alliance appreciates the school board\u2019s willingness to engage with feedback from the community and to consider perspectives which may differ from their own. We are hopeful that the opportunity for community input is not merely a fig leaf for a predetermined outcome but rather has the power to help shape the future of the district.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the September 3 school board workshop, district administration unveiled two additional options, putting new schools on the \u201cchopping block\u201d while \u201csaving\u201d others. The community conversations following that workshop signal that we have entered a phase in which individual schools and their supporters feel pitted against one another, and understandably so. With no impartial impact study that balances the needs of all students in the district, division is sown as people naturally work to save \u201ctheir\u201d school. An impact study that makes all pertinent data accessible is necessary not only to analyze the relative merits of each proposal, but also to unite our community around the common goal of supporting our students in a challenging environment. \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

It is commonplace for school districts throughout this country, including in states like Texas and Ohio, to commission impact studies to inform their decisions, especially when considering such sweeping changes. The Alliance calls on the Board to take the time needed to do an impact study, to fully digest all perspectives in our district, to create plans which center the needs of our students, and to ensure that, whichever plan is ultimately implemented, there is enough time taken to implement it the right way. The district administration has repeatedly stated that SDW is not in crisis. We have the luxury of time, so we should make the most of it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Alliance also calls upon the community to continue to advocate for our students and schools, and to keep the focus on those in power. Let us learn from our diverse perspectives and collaborate to find solutions that work for everyone.<\/span><\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

La Alianza para la Educaci\u00f3n en Waukesha llama a los miembros de la comunidad del Distrito Escolar de Waukesha a asistir a la pr\u00f3xima reuni\u00f3n de la junta escolar el mi\u00e9rcoles 10 de septiembre a las 6:30 p. m. para exigir una pausa en todas las votaciones o acciones de “Optimizando Nuestro Futuro” hasta que se complete un estudio de impacto. Durante el taller de la junta escolar del 3 de septiembre, la administraci\u00f3n del distrito present\u00f3 dos opciones adicionales, poniendo nuevas escuelas en la “lista de corte” mientras “salvan” a otras. We ask the community to stand united in efforts to ensure a bright future for all of Waukesha\u2019s students.<\/p> <p>The district administration\u2019s \u201cOptimizing Our Future\u201d options and short implementation timeline have raised significant alarm across our community. Major changes, including the closings, consolidation and sales of multiple schools, are set to occur by the start of the 2026-27 school year. In response, hundreds of parents, teachers, students and community members have advocated for a slowing of the process, additional data, collaboration with the community, alternate options, etc. The Alliance applauds all who have spoken out and encourages everyone who has not yet done so to make their voices heard.<\/p> <p>The Alliance appreciates the school board\u2019s willingness to engage with feedback from the community and to consider perspectives which may differ from their own. We are hopeful that the opportunity for community input is not merely a fig leaf for a predetermined outcome but rather has the power to help shape the future of the district.<\/p> <p>During the September 3 school board workshop, district administration unveiled two additional options, putting new schools on the \u201cchopping block\u201d while \u201csaving\u201d others. The community conversations following that workshop signal that we have entered a phase in which individual schools and their supporters feel pitted against one another, and understandably so. With no impartial impact study that balances the needs of all students in the district, division is sown as people naturally work to save \u201ctheir\u201d school. An impact study that makes all pertinent data accessible is necessary not only to analyze the relative merits of each proposal, but also to unite our community around the common goal of supporting our students in a challenging environment. \u00a0 <\/p> <p>It is commonplace for school districts throughout this country, including in states like Texas and Ohio, to commission impact studies to inform their decisions, especially when considering such sweeping changes. The Alliance calls on the Board to take the time needed to do an impact study, to fully digest all perspectives in our district, to create plans which center the needs of our students, and to ensure that, whichever plan is ultimately implemented, there is enough time taken to implement it the right way. The district administration has repeatedly stated that SDW is not in crisis. We have the luxury of time, so we should make the most of it.<\/p> <p>The Alliance also calls upon the community to continue to advocate for our students and schools, and to keep the focus on those in power.
