Families with students currently in 5th grade were also informed of the decision.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sent from Jennifer Gennerman\u2013Deputy Superintendent, Deirdre Garcia\u2013Director of Middle School Teaching and Learning, and Dr. James Sebert\u2013Superintendent, the letter mentions SDW\u2019s need to \u201calign curricular resources and expectations across the system,\u201d as well as declining enrollment and \u201cinconsistencies\u201d as reasons for closing a program that includes 200+ students across the district.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SDW is inviting current Personalized Learning Program families as well as all current 5th grade families who might be interested in personalized learning to meet on <\/span><b>Tuesday, November 28th at 5:30 pm at Butler Middle School in the auditorium<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Butler is located at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/NoBCyqoaZp4cpYbQ6\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">310 N. Hine Avenue<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Waukesha. At this meeting, SDW plans to share information about the recommendation and enrollment options for incoming 6th grade students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><strong>The Alliance is aware of some information about the Personalized Learning Program that we feel the community needs to know.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The district has provided no data regarding achievement, behavior or enrollment to anyone during this process to justify the discontinuation.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The district plans to offer no alternative other than encouraging enrollment at STEM or Montessori. Neither of the schools provides bus service, preventing students who require transportation from attending.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The district prevented the Personalized Learning Program teachers from promoting the program at the elementary level last school year. If enrollment has declined, this certainly can be attributed to that.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is currently no plan from the district regarding how it will \u201csunset\u201d the program over the next two years. A comprehensive plan must address how teachers will be properly utilized as program enrollment dwindles over the next few years.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The decision to discontinue this program has been made without parental input<\/strong>, and was only recently brought to the School Board at a Teaching and Learning Committee meeting. The district hid their discussion and decision from families instead of asking them to collaborate. administration\u2019s plan to <strong>discontinue the Personalized Learning Program<\/strong> for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at each of those schools. Families with students currently in 5th grade were also informed of the decision.<\/p><p>Sent from Jennifer Gennerman\u2013Deputy Superintendent, Deirdre Garcia\u2013Director of Middle School Teaching and Learning, and Dr. James Sebert\u2013Superintendent, the letter mentions SDW\u2019s need to \u201calign curricular resources and expectations across the system,\u201d as well as declining enrollment and \u201cinconsistencies\u201d as reasons for closing a program that includes 200+ students across the district.\u00a0<\/p><p>SDW is inviting current Personalized Learning Program families as well as all current 5th grade families who might be interested in personalized learning to meet on <b>Tuesday, November 28th at 5:30 pm at Butler Middle School in the auditorium<\/b>. Butler is located at <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/NoBCyqoaZp4cpYbQ6\">310 N. Hine Avenue<\/a> in Waukesha. At this meeting, SDW plans to share information about the recommendation and enrollment options for incoming 6th grade students.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>The Alliance is aware of some information about the Personalized Learning Program that we feel the community needs to know.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">The district has provided no data regarding achievement, behavior or enrollment to anyone during this process to justify the discontinuation.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">The district plans to offer no alternative other than encouraging enrollment at STEM or Montessori. Neither of the schools provides bus service, preventing students who require transportation from attending.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">The district prevented the Personalized Learning Program teachers from promoting the program at the elementary level last school year. If enrollment has declined, this certainly can be attributed to that.<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">There is currently no plan from the district regarding how it will \u201csunset\u201d the program over the next two years. A comprehensive plan must address how teachers will be properly utilized as program enrollment dwindles over the next few years.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>The decision to discontinue this program has been made without parental input<\/strong>, and was only recently brought to the School Board at a Teaching and Learning Committee meeting. The district hid their discussion and decision from families instead of asking them to collaborate.
