Teachers rock!<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Things you can do to build trust with your students&#8217; teachers (from a teacher):<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Read the communication teachers share. (We know you might be overwhelmed by all the emails sent your way! We promise there won&#8217;t be a quiz on the content. It does help to take some time to read.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you have any concerns, email the teacher. Teachers want to help! And it helps us help students when we can build connections with families.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Share some grace. Teachers, students, families&#8230;we&#8217;re all doing our best. The meetings are held monthly in the Blair Administration building and are also available on the district\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCUYvFcXRCt0GTrCgF30XM1w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube channel<\/a>. You can watch the meetings live or access them at your convenience (usually by the next morning).<br \/><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- \/module text --><!-- module text -->\n<div  class=\"module module-text tb_fgs6199   \" data-lazy=\"1\">\n        <div  class=\"tb_text_wrap\">\n        <p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those who want to speak at board meetings here are some helpful tips to get prepared:<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sign up when you arrive at the meeting. <strong>You do not need to provide your full address<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be aware of the speaking time limit. It varies and is usually <strong>two or three minutes<\/strong>, &#8211; you want to prepare your remarks accordingly and even practice them ahead of time to be sure you are able to express your most important points without being cut off.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure your information is solid and use facts to drive your point home. No visual aids posters\/charts etc. are allowed. You <strong>can<\/strong> email <a href=\"mailto:settinge@waukesha.k12.wi.us\">Sue Ettinger<\/a> ahead of time if you have handouts you&#8217;d like printed out and given to each board member.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Be respectful<\/strong>. Insults tend to shut down\u00a0 listeners, and explicit language may get you into trouble.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best way to communicate is to be <strong>clear and direct<\/strong>. Share your personal experiences. Tell the school board who you are and why you care about the issues you are speaking about.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Remember to breathe!<\/strong> There will likely be a friendly face right there in the\u00a0 audience. Many people are thankful to those that speak up at Board meetings and bring attention to issues they care about.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember that the Board is unlikely to address your concerns in the meeting but it\u2019s <strong>important that we have it on public record<\/strong> that parents and the community have concerns about the impact of decisions made in the district.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- \/module text --><!-- module text -->\n<div  class=\"module module-text tb_z3z0184   \" data-lazy=\"1\">\n        <div  class=\"tb_text_wrap\">\n        <ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Email questions, concerns or suggestions to board members or administrators<\/strong>. Teachers rock!<br \/><\/p> <p>Things you can do to build trust with your students' teachers (from a teacher):<\/p> <ul> <li> Read the communication teachers share. (We know you might be overwhelmed by all the emails sent your way! We promise there won't be a quiz on the content. It does help to take some time to read.)<\/li> <li> If you have any concerns, email the teacher. Teachers want to help! And it helps us help students when we can build connections with families.<\/li> <li> Share some grace. Teachers, students, families...we're all doing our best. When we keep this in mind, we can work better together.<\/li> <\/ul> <p><br \/><b><\/b><\/p>\n\n<a name=\"3\"><\/a>\n<p>3. <strong>Stay Informed and Get Involved:<\/strong> You can also become more involved and aware of district happenings through a variety of avenues.<\/p> <ul> <li><strong> Watch, attend, or speak at board and\/or committee meetings<\/strong>. The meetings are held monthly in the Blair Administration building and are also available on the district\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCUYvFcXRCt0GTrCgF30XM1w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube channel<\/a>. You can watch the meetings live or access them at your convenience (usually by the next morning).<br \/><\/li> <\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For those who want to speak at board meetings here are some helpful tips to get prepared:<br \/><\/p> <ul> <li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"> <ul> <li> <p>Sign up when you arrive at the meeting. <strong>You do not need to provide your full address<\/strong>.<\/p> <\/li> <li> <p>Be aware of the speaking time limit. It varies and is usually <strong>two or three minutes<\/strong>, - you want to prepare your remarks accordingly and even practice them ahead of time to be sure you are able to express your most important points without being cut off.<\/p> <\/li> <li> <p>Make sure your information is solid and use facts to drive your point home. No visual aids posters\/charts etc. are allowed. You <strong>can<\/strong> email <a href=\"mailto:settinge@waukesha.k12.wi.us\">Sue Ettinger<\/a> ahead of time if you have handouts you'd like printed out and given to each board member.<\/p> <\/li> <li> <p><strong>Be respectful<\/strong>. Insults tend to shut down\u00a0 listeners, and explicit language may get you into trouble.\u00a0<\/p> <\/li> <li> <p>The best way to communicate is to be <strong>clear and direct<\/strong>. Share your personal experiences. Tell the school board who you are and why you care about the issues you are speaking about.<\/p> <\/li> <li> <p><strong>Remember to breathe!<\/strong> There will likely be a friendly face right there in the\u00a0 audience. Many people are thankful to those that speak up at Board meetings and bring attention to issues they care about.\u00a0<\/p> <\/li> <li> <p>Remember that the Board is unlikely to address your concerns in the meeting but it\u2019s <strong>important that we have it on public record<\/strong> that parents and the community have concerns about the impact of decisions made in the district.<\/p> <\/li> <\/ul> <\/li> <\/ul>\n<ul> <li><strong>Email questions, concerns or suggestions to board members or administrators<\/strong>.
