It should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following recent events in our district that there are numerous vacancies to fill. (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliancewaukesha.org\/index.php\/2023\/06\/14\/aew-statement-on-school-district-of-waukesha-teacher-resignations\/\">our previous statement<\/a> on teacher resignations.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall we count 34 records containing over 40 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wecan.waspa.org\/Employer\/Vacancy\/PublicCertified\/3186?fbclid=IwAR3lUK9efi7mGwmhbm7Yms9n-g0qHObFnYFq7RrRNl7wVYuW3zDCMAu1bmQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vacancies for teachers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, of which at least 13 are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wecan.waspa.org\/Employer\/Vacancy\/PublicCertified\/3186?fbclid=IwAR3lUK9efi7mGwmhbm7Yms9n-g0qHObFnYFq7RrRNl7wVYuW3zDCMAu1bmQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vacancies for long-term, building, or administrative subs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There are also 53 records for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wecan.waspa.org\/Employer\/Vacancy\/PublicSupport\/3186?fbclid=IwAR2b456FBM9LoYDuJ8aIy06uQ1jHSsxogzWmeTG4Zsw19bGhdu53Vgqxj_E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vacancies for aides and support staff<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a number of which have multiple positions attached), as well as 99+ <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wecan.waspa.org\/Vacancy\/176808?fbclid=IwAR09GdUyPxHeu-yj3Z9TqgHYNaSpmG4yuWcUb7TkYpPf_RPeI7RpvxOhlz4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">open positions for short term substitutes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The sheer numbers this close to the start of the school year are concerning enough, but we would also like to draw attention to some of the specific types of vacancies:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Special Education<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Nearly every school in the district has openings for special education teachers, aides, or both. There are also 50 openings for substitute special education assistants.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Dual Language<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: There are also large numbers of openings for bilingual teachers and staff, including 1st grade at Banting, 5th grade at Heyer, 4th grade at either Bethesda or Banting, along with bilingual reading interventionists, bilingual aides, and bilingual substitutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>This affects everybody. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are <\/span><b>a month away<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the first day of school and every school has <\/span><b>at least one opening.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of the day, it is the students who suffer in this situation. When we can\u2019t attract or retain teachers and staff, class sizes are larger, students\u2019 needs aren\u2019t met, lessons aren\u2019t able to be as creative, and students don\u2019t receive the kind of education every single one of them deserves. When multiple teachers have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliancewaukesha.org\/index.php\/2023\/06\/20\/another-open-letter-to-the-school-district-of-waukesha-from-a-resigning-teacher\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">explicitly stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that they are leaving due to the actions of district leadership, when teachers are warning friends and colleagues not to apply here, it is incumbent on those in leadership to do some self-reflection and address the problems they have created, and we call upon the board and Dr. Sebert to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But we are also realistic, and know that a real change in leadership won\u2019t be happening at least until the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.waukeshacounty.gov\/electioninformation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">next election<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Nevertheless, we would also like any teachers who <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> still considering applying here to know that while things are hard right now, this is still a school district with amazing students and families. We want prospective teachers to know that they can count on the support of the Alliance if they choose to come here. We encourage interested parties to apply or share these openings to help recruit more quality candidates. We in the Alliance are all parents in this district. We all want our kids to receive a high quality education. As always, if you have a suggestion for an upcoming Three Things, please <a href=\"mailto:allianceforeducationwaukesha@gmail.com\">message us<\/a>. <\/p> <p>On to this week\u2019s Three Things:\u00a0<b><\/b><\/p> <ul> <li><a href=\"#1\">Job Openings for Teachers &amp; Staff<\/a><\/li> <li><a href=\"#2\">Teacher Wishlists<\/a><\/li> <li><a href=\"#3\">School Supply Lists<\/a><\/li> <\/ul>\n<a name=\"1\"><\/a>\n<p>1. <b>Job Openings for Teachers and Staff<\/b>: SDW will be hosting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/waukeshaschooldistrict\/posts\/pfbid024SimSZvPuqrt3eG5xmbqG5kGdUAjSWoeov1Cbo8o5kYbH6pixE8mHQvfzkamQn1Sl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">job fair<\/a> with on-site interviews later this week, on August 2. It should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following recent events in our district that there are numerous vacancies to fill. (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliancewaukesha.org\/index.php\/2023\/06\/14\/aew-statement-on-school-district-of-waukesha-teacher-resignations\/\">our previous statement<\/a> on teacher resignations.)<\/p> <p>Overall we count 34 records containing over 40 <a href=\"https:\/\/wecan.waspa.org\/Employer\/Vacancy\/PublicCertified\/3186?fbclid=IwAR3lUK9efi7mGwmhbm7Yms9n-g0qHObFnYFq7RrRNl7wVYuW3zDCMAu1bmQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vacancies for teachers<\/a>, of which at least 13 are <a href=\"https:\/\/wecan.waspa.org\/Employer\/Vacancy\/PublicCertified\/3186?fbclid=IwAR3lUK9efi7mGwmhbm7Yms9n-g0qHObFnYFq7RrRNl7wVYuW3zDCMAu1bmQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vacancies for long-term, building, or administrative subs<\/a>. There are also 53 records for <a href=\"https:\/\/wecan.waspa.org\/Employer\/Vacancy\/PublicSupport\/3186?fbclid=IwAR2b456FBM9LoYDuJ8aIy06uQ1jHSsxogzWmeTG4Zsw19bGhdu53Vgqxj_E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vacancies for aides and support staff<\/a> (a number of which have multiple positions attached), as well as 99+ <a href=\"https:\/\/wecan.waspa.org\/Vacancy\/176808?fbclid=IwAR09GdUyPxHeu-yj3Z9TqgHYNaSpmG4yuWcUb7TkYpPf_RPeI7RpvxOhlz4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open positions for short term substitutes<\/a>. The sheer numbers this close to the start of the school year are concerning enough, but we would also like to draw attention to some of the specific types of vacancies:<\/p> <ul> <li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Special Education<\/b>: Nearly every school in the district has openings for special education teachers, aides, or both. There are also 50 openings for substitute special education assistants.\u00a0<\/li> <li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Dual Language<\/b>: There are also large numbers of openings for bilingual teachers and staff, including 1st grade at Banting, 5th grade at Heyer, 4th grade at either Bethesda or Banting, along with bilingual reading interventionists, bilingual aides, and bilingual substitutes.\u00a0<\/li> <li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>This affects everybody. <\/b>We are <b>a month away<\/b> from the first day of school and every school has <b>at least one opening.<\/b>\u00a0<\/li> <\/ul> <p>At the end of the day, it is the students who suffer in this situation. When we can\u2019t attract or retain teachers and staff, class sizes are larger, students\u2019 needs aren\u2019t met, lessons aren\u2019t able to be as creative, and students don\u2019t receive the kind of education every single one of them deserves. When multiple teachers have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliancewaukesha.org\/index.php\/2023\/06\/20\/another-open-letter-to-the-school-district-of-waukesha-from-a-resigning-teacher\/\">explicitly stated<\/a> that they are leaving due to the actions of district leadership, when teachers are warning friends and colleagues not to apply here, it is incumbent on those in leadership to do some self-reflection and address the problems they have created, and we call upon the board and Dr. Sebert to do so.<\/p> <p>But we are also realistic, and know that a real change in leadership won\u2019t be happening at least until the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waukeshacounty.gov\/electioninformation\/\">next election<\/a>. Nevertheless, we would also like any teachers who <i>are<\/i> still considering applying here to know that while things are hard right now, this is still a school district with amazing students and families. We want prospective teachers to know that they can count on the support of the Alliance if they choose to come here. We encourage interested parties to apply or share these openings to help recruit more quality candidates. We in the Alliance are all parents in this district. We all want our kids to receive a high quality education. Cuando no podemos atraer o retener a los maestros y al personal, el tama\u00f1o de las clases es mayor, las necesidades de los estudiantes no se cumplen, las lecciones no pueden ser tan creativas y los estudiantes no reciben el tipo de educaci\u00f3n que cada uno de ellos merece. Cuando varios maestros han <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliancewaukesha.org\/index.php\/2023\/06\/20\/another-open-letter-to-the-school-district-of-waukesha-from-a-resigning-teacher\/\">declarado expl\u00edcitamente<\/a> que se van debido a las acciones del liderazgo del distrito, cuando los maestros advierten a amigos y colegas que no soliciten aqu\u00ed, corresponde a los l\u00edderes hacer una autorreflexi\u00f3n y abordar los problemas que han creado, y hacemos un llamado a la junta y al Dr. Sebert para que lo hagan.<\/p> <p>Pero tambi\u00e9n somos realistas y sabemos que un cambio real en el liderazgo no ocurrir\u00e1 al menos hasta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waukeshacounty.gov\/electioninformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">las pr\u00f3ximas elecciones<\/a>. Sin embargo, tambi\u00e9n nos gustar\u00eda que cualquier maestro que todav\u00eda est\u00e9 considerando postularse aqu\u00ed sepa que si bien las cosas son dif\u00edciles en este momento, este sigue siendo un distrito escolar con estudiantes y familias incre\u00edbles. Queremos que los futuros maestros sepan que pueden contar con el apoyo de la Alianza si deciden venir aqu\u00ed. Alentamos a las partes interesadas a postularse o compartir estas vacantes para ayudar a reclutar m\u00e1s candidatos de calidad. Nosotros en la Alianza somos todos padres en este distrito. Todos queremos que nuestros hijos reciban una educaci\u00f3n de alta calidad.
